Local California Reporter Wanted in India

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

This is just crazy and leave it to a whack job from California to think its just fine. An online local news and events web site in Pasadena CA has hired reporter(s) in India to cover local news.

Read the story here

OK he needs to save some money, but can’t he hire a young college kid that wants some on the job training, kinda intern thing? For goodness sake hire a highschool kid with a flair for writing or something.

I say the guy is a freakin whack job that should pull his head out.

Outsourced Jobs

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

So why do you suppose outsourcing of American Jobs have not been in the news as of late? I think both parties (R and D) for what ever reason don’t want to talk about it. Or is it that we are not asking them.

Did you know that the debate bewteen Kerry and Bush (The last I think) the one that they allowed the public to ask questions that were pre-screened, the number one topic (by far) was protecting our borders and illeagal workers. Even though that topic was the most popular I think only one or two questions regarding that came up. I know the debate is old news and I’m not taking sides, my question is why does the media not push this topic when it is on so many minds?

So this leads me to ask would you like to see a label that reads made in America by Americans? Not that it could ever happen, but I heard on a radio show today a women say she would love to see that label.

Have you ever seen a company advertise that way? I have not.

I once hired a contractor that had a fair price. I thought the job would take days. He showed up with a truck load of what could have been illeagal workers and they fininshed in about 6 hours. The guys worked their asses off. But I had no idea he was going to do that, and I’ll bet there were no taxes paid on employment, L&I etc. I wonder if the sales tax I paid was turned over to the state. I’ll hazard a guess it was not. The job was well done and I have no complaints about that, but I think he charged me a fair price that should have been for a couple guys to work for a couple days and pay taxes into the system. It’s not like he said hey I’ll cut you a great deal and bring a truck load of people to work here under the radar.

Mixed Bag

So the oil prices and weak dollar make for some interesting news.  The higher oil prices widen our trade gap, which (among other things) weakens the dollar. The flip side is that with a weaker dollar other countries can afford our goods. So exports to Canada and the EU hit record levels.

Overall our trade gap compared to this time last year is lower. We have to make hay while the suns shines right!

The China Boom is getting stronger.

Monday, May 7th, 2007

We are not the only people in the world hungry for cheap Chinese goods. The Chinese city of Shanghai is growing leaps and bounds fed by the West’s taste for their cheap goods. Look at the following quote from a recent BBC article

“To ensure Shanghai dominates foreign trade, it is building the world’s largest container port on an island 30km offshore, linked by a six-lane bridge.

“I have nothing against them at all, but just remember every time we buy goods from overseas when there was a domestic product we could have bought, we help pave that giant 6 line bridge!

Brazil will import a cheaper, generic Indian-made version of the patented Efavirenz drug.

This is happening to Merck who invented the drug. Wow, I did not know this could be done, but read the article here for the details here us a quote from the article:

“Under Brazilian law and rules established by the World Health Organisation, such a licence can be granted in a health emergency or if the pharmaceutical industry abuses its pricing.”

I think we need to be very careful allowing outsiders to set our prices. American and other powerful countries invest the money to make these drugs. I’m not in love with the drug industry, but it is their money they invest to make these drugs. How many drugs has Brazil brought to the market?

Look at the last line of the quote from the article “if the pharmaceutical industry abuses its pricing.” who get to make that call? Like in all things there has to be balance, but if a company can not get a return then why would they risk the investment. I think they adjusted the price to Brazil according to their ability to pay.

I know there is a lot of thoughts about drug companies out there that would take another website to discuss. But in my mind I think Merck got the short end.

May 4 (Bloomberg) — Job growth in the U.S. fell to its lowest level in more than two years in April as payroll losses spread from struggling homebuilders and factories to retailers.

So in India Jobs grew more then expected, while in the US less then expected. OK the good news is of course that there was Job Growth. And it appears that we are also to blame for some of our slow down. This mortgage bubble bursting is affecting us all.

This Mortgage bubble is being caused by greedy mortgage firms and greedy borrowers that know their property is not worth what the took out on it to pay off other debt. Come on Americans use your heads a little more (myself included)

Buy American and don’t use as much credit!

The Chinese and Global Warming

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

OK, I don’t know much about Global Warming and this is not the forum to argue about it. However when you make the connection to industry it is cleay not fair to countries like the US, and Canada to impose harsh rules while ignoring poorer nations that are pooring the same pollution. The article linked here  claims th following:”China’s emissions are just one-sixth of America’s per capita, but the population is so huge that this year the country is due to become the world’s biggest polluter.”

So of course China is really not liking the rules the rest of the world are trying to impose on it.

US manufacturing in surprise jump

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Hey good news in the news, don’t see that often. This article has some good figures on American Manufacturing

This is one good thing about a weaker dollar. When our money does not buy as much abroad it makes our American Factories more competitive.
