OK, this is a different type of giving our job to folks overseas. It turns out that our own companies that send jobs offshore also us the H-1B Visa to bring temorary skilled workers here. The problem is that these temp workers make less than our new college graduates.
30% of the 65,000 H-1B Visas issued worldwide went to Indians.
I think that before these visas are issued that the companies using those folks should have to advertise for the jobs here at standard wages before being allowed to bring in outsiders.
According to a recent article in the BBC online large companies driven by customer complaints are bringing many of the support desk jobs back home. We can do the same here. Big companies spend a lot of money “Branding” and they don’t want negitive thoughts about the brand. When they hear the customers wanting something, if it can be done they will do it. So do it.
Here is a great quote from the article from a man who did not take his call center overseas.
“Taking call centres out of the UK might look like a good option if you are a short-sighted accountant with your nose stuck up against a spreadsheet. We have always taken the broader view - we could save money but at the expense of service.”

Elastic Corporation to shut down: Columbiana factory’s 230 jobs moved to Central America. According to the article the bulk of this companies customers are fled south of the border for cheap labor and they have to be where their customers are (Fruit of the Loom, Jockey, etc.) This was all in March of 07
Here is a couple quotes from the company: “We’ve had great employees but its just one thing you have to do in textiles,” “You go to these foreign countries for lower wages, for cheaper work.” “We have a facility in Honduras, and it’s likely that’s where we will be going,”. “A majority of our customers are in Central America, and they want our presence there.”
Here is a quote from the town’s mayor: “We are very sad for the employees because this is their livelihood,”. “Many of them have devoted their entire adult lives to working there.”

Well to bad it is not here (although our employment rate is good right now, there is always room to grow) but it is in large part because of us. Read the story here
This is an example of outsourcing Jobs that should be here. American Express should be ashamed of themselves for being in the postion to be mentioned in this article.
If you have an Amex card, call them and let them know what you think. (I don’t have one)
This is just crazy and leave it to a whack job from California to think its just fine. An online local news and events web site in Pasadena CA has hired reporter(s) in India to cover local news.
OK he needs to save some money, but can’t he hire a young college kid that wants some on the job training, kinda intern thing? For goodness sake hire a highschool kid with a flair for writing or something.
I say the guy is a freakin whack job that should pull his head out.
So why do you suppose outsourcing of American Jobs have not been in the news as of late? I think both parties (R and D) for what ever reason don’t want to talk about it. Or is it that we are not asking them.
Did you know that the debate bewteen Kerry and Bush (The last I think) the one that they allowed the public to ask questions that were pre-screened, the number one topic (by far) was protecting our borders and illeagal workers. Even though that topic was the most popular I think only one or two questions regarding that came up. I know the debate is old news and I’m not taking sides, my question is why does the media not push this topic when it is on so many minds?
So this leads me to ask would you like to see a label that reads made in America by Americans? Not that it could ever happen, but I heard on a radio show today a women say she would love to see that label.
Have you ever seen a company advertise that way? I have not.
I once hired a contractor that had a fair price. I thought the job would take days. He showed up with a truck load of what could have been illeagal workers and they fininshed in about 6 hours. The guys worked their asses off. But I had no idea he was going to do that, and I’ll bet there were no taxes paid on employment, L&I etc. I wonder if the sales tax I paid was turned over to the state. I’ll hazard a guess it was not. The job was well done and I have no complaints about that, but I think he charged me a fair price that should have been for a couple guys to work for a couple days and pay taxes into the system. It’s not like he said hey I’ll cut you a great deal and bring a truck load of people to work here under the radar.
Technewsworld.com reported that of the 7000 jobs Dell created in 2003 only 1000 where in the US (1000 jobs is great, so I want to give them credit for that), which means 6000 were jobs went to other places. OK Dell is a global company and I’m sure they need sales jobs, and offices around the world. But I would like to know where the bulk of their business comes from. Is it the US? If so why would you place your tech support call centers in India and Panama.
If you are looking for a new PC keep that in mind. When you need help, you may have to speak to someone that is outside of America. Dell computers are cheap for a reason, and hey why blame them, we keep buying them (well not me, ever again)

Look at this article about a powerful consulting firm that urges US companies that want to survive they should move jobs overseas and do it quickly.

The state of Arizona had outsourced jobs dealing with the welfare dept to an Indian company. So they paid non-Americans to help Americans get welfare benefits. They did stop the practice as soon as the public was made aware. How many more things like this do we need to be made aware of?
