Bikes made in the USA don’t need to be just a memory. In the past the American Made Bike industry employed many people. Today most bikes are made elsewhere, however it seems like it is experiencing a bit of a resurgence. Bike making is a craft and a labor of love. I’m not sure it can be replaced by an assembly line of robots making thousands of bikes in a day. Today the old bike names we are familiar with are all just marketing slogans, they made cheaply overseas, advertised heavily and sold by the container to the big box stores in the US.
The companies on this list don’t operate that way, they focus on quality, style and function. Their labor of love will become your prize possession. When you buy a bike made in the USA you will also have helped support American jobs keeping our country strong. American’s working are paying taxes, participating in the economy we all live in. Lightning Cycle Dynamics. 30 years ago young American rocket scientist Tim Brummer was an avid cyclist. However on longer rides he always experienced some pain and discomfort no matter what adjustments or saddles tried. Plus headwinds really took the enjoyment out of riding. Being an accomplished engineer, he set about designing a superior bike not encumbered by 100 year old racing rules. The result was the Lightning recumbent style bikes, whose performance is verified by dozens of world records and unmatched comfort recognized by thousands of owners world wide. The Brummer designed Lightning P-38 and R-84 models are hand built […]

Rodriguez Bicycles is a group of 15 people that build bicycles in a small shop in Seattle Washington . We’ve been out here doing this since 1973, and have really thought through our methods for hand-building a bicycle, and ways of doing so efficiently right here in the United States. While most of our competition has sent their production overseas, or raised their prices through the roof, we’ve studied and changed the methods we use to build, paint and assemble.

Wound Up™ unveiled an innovative composite road fork that set a number of precedents in the world of bicycle components. Wound Up™ was the first manufacturer to introduce a patented composite steer tube and the first manufacturer to offer a production composite fork that weighed less than a pound. Our “no compromise” ride quality combined lateral leg stiffness with carbon’s unique dampening properties, yet another first. It was not surprising that our forks consistently outperformed those of our competitors in rigorous fatigue and static load tests. There was and still is nothing else on the market quite like Wound Up™. […]
