I’m Marguerite Swope, the owner and do-everything person for Ivy Reed. After a long teaching career at Penn State, I left academia to pursue my passion for designing and sewing wraps and scarves made in the USA. I started making a few things to sell on eBay, then moved on to the world of craft fairs, and now I’m lucky enough to have expanded into my own factory.
I now sell wholesale to stores, online, and I still sell at craft fairs. I have two websites, ivyreed.com (list of stores where you can buy) and NunaWraps.com (buy wraps and scarves here). You’ll find different things to purchase online than you’ll find in my stores—so check out both websites.
I purchase fabric through many suppliers from New York to Montreal to California to China. I look for interesting fabrics that I can combine with interesting design details and/or other fabrics.
In 2013 I was lucky enough to find a fallow factory just 30 minutes from my home here in PA. I rent it, completely outfitted, and so now we’re producing in-house. I’m thrilled to be reviving this factory and offering work to the amazingly talented workers in this area.
I do all of the design work and make the patterns. Sometimes I use a professional pattern maker (when I’m in over my expertise), but mostly we do everything in-house.
It’s creative heaven for me to sew limited editions to offer to you here on my website and at craft shows. I love combining colors to make unusual wraps so you’ll find lots of variety and ever-changing fabrics. If it’s tunics and jackets you’re looking for, then you’ll find them at my stores. We make outerwear fleece as well as everyday clothing in addition to wraps and scarves made in the USA.
I live in State College, PA with my husband and youngest son and am fortunate enough to have my oldest son’s family and two grandsons here as well.
